Mondays with Nonnie: Easter Traditions

Easter has always been one of my all time favorite holidays, peeps, chocolate bunnies, jelly bellies, new dresses, new shoes, hats (I was meant to live in England:), and what I feel is the best meal of the year...Easter Dinner.

Another reason it is my favorite is that we try and focus the entire week on the events of Jesus Christ's life leading up to His death and Resurrection.  Starting on Palm Sunday we reenact the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem with the children throwing palm leaves and clothes into the path of the donkey as we read from the account in the Bible.

Each day consists of learning and activities centered around the recorded events of the Bible.  On Sunday morning we wake the kids up before the sun rises (it is nice to have a role reversal at least once a year:) and have our own 'Sunrise Service', we read from the family Bible the account of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we sing a song and each take a turn to share our feelings about what He did for us.  I remember wondering why my parents would wake us up so darn early on Easter morning to drive up the mountain behind our home in order to do this same thing we've now incorporated into our Easter Celebration.  That is until one day when my dad passed away, seven years ago, and when I heard of his passing it was the scene on that mountain top of him sharing his feelings about the Saviour that came to my mind and I understood.

Happy Easter!

With Love,  Nonnie
